Getting started

How do I begin?

Send us a short message on WhatsApp or via the contact form. Tell us your situation in plain words — your condition, where you are, what you've already tried. We reply within 1 business day with a clear next step and an honest view of whether you actually need to fly.

Do I have to commit right away?

No. The first consultation and the records review are free. You only commit — and only pay a deposit — when you decide to proceed with treatment in China.

How long does the whole process take?

From first contact to first appointment in China is typically 7–14 days. Complex cases (requiring visa, multiple opinions or pre-treatment work-up) can take 3–4 weeks. We always give you a realistic timeline before you commit.

Can I just use the online consultation and decide later?

Yes. About a third of our online consultations conclude with "you probably don't need to fly". We charge for the specialist's time either way, and you walk away with a written English opinion you can use at home.

Hospitals & doctors

Which hospitals do you work with?

Public tertiary (top-tier) hospitals with established international departments — mostly in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu. We don't publish a hospital name list, because the right hospital depends on your condition and on which specialist is actually available. Send us your records and we will give you a written shortlist of 2–3 hospitals, with doctor CVs. See how we choose hospitals.

Can I choose my own hospital and doctor?

Yes. If you have already researched a hospital or doctor, we are happy to coordinate with them. If not, we recommend 2–3 options for your case so you can choose. The choice is always yours.

Are the doctors licensed?

Yes. All treating physicians we work with hold Chinese medical licenses and typically have additional training or fellowship experience abroad. We can share each doctor's CV in English on request.

Can I see the doctor's qualifications before I commit?

Absolutely. Once we propose a shortlist, you receive the CV, specialty board certifications, English publications (if any) and years of experience for each doctor. No commitment required to see them.

What if I want a second opinion once in China?

You can always ask. We can arrange a second opinion at the same hospital or a different one, with full coordination of your records. This is sometimes done remotely before you travel, sometimes in person.

Health screening & checkups

Can I come just for a checkup, without being ill?

Yes — and plenty of our patients do. A comprehensive checkup is one of the most common reasons people travel to China, because imaging and screening that can take months to arrange at home are often done in two or three days here.

What does a checkup include?

It depends on your age, sex, family history and risk factors. Standard packages typically cover bloods, urine, ECG, ultrasound, chest imaging and a physician review. More comprehensive packages add CT, MRI, endoscopy, tumour markers and cardiac risk assessment. The hospital designs the package — we arrange it and translate.

How long does a checkup take?

Most standard checkups are completed in one or two days, with the report within a few days. Comprehensive packages with advanced imaging usually take three to five days. We schedule the tests back-to-back so you are not waiting around between appointments.

Will I get the results in English?

Yes. You receive the hospital's report together with an English translation, and the doctor explains the findings to you with your interpreter present. Take it home and your own doctor can read it.

What if the checkup finds something?

Then you can see a specialist straight away — one of the genuine advantages of doing it here. We arrange the follow-up appointment and stay with you through it. What we do not do is tell you what a finding means; that is the doctor's role.

Can I combine a checkup with a holiday or TCM treatment?

Yes, and many patients do. Checkups are frequently paired with a few days of sightseeing or a traditional Chinese medicine programme. We keep the schedule light and, where treatment is involved, confirm with the physician what you can comfortably do.

Costs & payment

How is the cost structured?

Two separate things. Our service fee is quoted upfront, itemized in English and fixed in the contract. Medical fees — consultations, imaging, surgery, medication — are paid by you directly to the hospital. We do not advance, collect or settle them, and we add no mark-up because we never touch them.

Why don't you pay the hospital on my behalf?

Deliberately. Keeping medical fees out of our hands protects you: your clinical costs stay entirely between you and the hospital, there is no room for mark-ups or rounding, and there is nothing for us to dispute with you over. It also means a disagreement about a medical bill can never affect the service you receive from us.

What currency can I pay in?

CNY, USD, EUR and most major currencies via bank transfer. Card payments are accepted for the service fee (a processing fee may apply). Hospital charges are typically settled in CNY at the hospital cashier.

When do I pay?

Standard structure: 30% deposit on signing, balance of our service fee on arrival, hospital charges paid directly to the hospital as they occur (we escort you to the cashier).

What if my stay is extended for medical reasons?

Additional days are charged at the daily rate in your contract — no surprise increases. If you decide to extend, we will tell you the cost and get your written confirmation before booking.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill insurers directly. We issue an English invoice for our service fee, and you receive the hospital's own English documentation and receipts at the cashier — together these are what you submit for reimbursement. For complex cases, Premium includes assistance with the claim paperwork.

Are hospital charges cheaper in China?

For many procedures — particularly joint replacement, dental implants, advanced imaging and comprehensive health screening — yes, often substantially. We deliberately don't publish comparative price tables, because quotes vary so much by hospital, doctor and materials. Once you send your records, the hospital gives you an itemized estimate for your actual case.

Can I get an invoice?

Yes. We issue an official invoice for our service fee, which you can use for insurance reimbursement or company expenses. Invoices for medical treatment itself are issued by the hospital in its own name — you receive those directly from the hospital cashier.

Language

Do I need to speak any Chinese?

No. Your coordinator and medical interpreter speak your language. All written materials — treatment plans, prescriptions, discharge summaries — can be delivered in English.

Which languages do you cover?

English (primary), plus Russian, Arabic, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, German and Italian on request. If we don't have an in-house interpreter in your language, we use a vetted partner — and tell you that in advance.

Are the interpreters medically trained?

Our interpreters have medical or life-sciences backgrounds (nursing, pharmacy, public health) plus on-the-job training in hospital settings. They are not generalist translators.

Will I get written translations?

Yes. Discharge summaries, prescriptions, lab reports and consent forms are translated into English. Hand-written notes from nurses are summarized verbally — Chinese clinical notes are typically kept in the hospital's electronic record.

Visa & travel

Do I need a special visa?

Most patients use a regular Chinese tourist (L) visa. For longer treatments or multiple entries, we help you request an invitation letter from the hospital's international department. Visa rules change — always confirm with your local Chinese consulate.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. We arrange accommodation for companions, daily sightseeing during your recovery periods, and keep them informed throughout your treatment. Children's visas follow the standard family rules.

Which airports do you cover?

Shanghai Pudong (PVG), Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA), Beijing Capital (PEK) and Beijing Daxing (PKX) as standard. Guangzhou (CAN), Shenzhen (SZX) and Chengdu (TFU) on request.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

We track your flight in real time. Pickup is automatically adjusted. If a cancellation forces you to rebook, we help with new arrangements at no extra coordination fee — you only pay for any additional service nights used.

Accommodation & food

Where will I stay?

Hotels, serviced apartments or dedicated recovery residences — chosen based on proximity to your hospital, your mobility, and your budget. We share 2–3 options for you to pick before booking.

Can I get special meals?

Yes. Post-surgery soft diets, low-salt, diabetic, renal, halal, kosher, vegetarian and allergen-free menus are coordinated with the hotel restaurant or a delivery partner. Specific therapeutic diets are always confirmed with your treating physician.

Are the hotels international-brand?

Often — but not always. International brands are familiar and predictable; well-run local hotels can be quieter, closer and better value. We recommend based on your case, not on commission.

Can I bring my own food or medication?

Yes, within the limits of Chinese customs regulations. Personal prescription medication for the duration of your stay is generally permitted with a copy of the prescription and the original packaging. We guide you on this before you fly.

Family & companions

Can my spouse or adult child attend consultations?

Yes — and we recommend it. Companions are welcome in the consultation room (with the doctor's consent), and we arrange interpretation for them too. Children are not typically in the room during detailed consent discussions.

How will my family abroad get updates?

With your written consent, your coordinator sends a daily written update (and photos or short videos on request) to a designated family contact. We do not share anything without your approval.

What if my companion speaks no English and no Chinese?

We can arrange an interpreter for your companion too — for sightseeing, meals and any non-medical situation. Tell us their language needs at planning.

Are there activities for companions while I rest?

Yes. We organize light sightseeing, cultural experiences (tea ceremony, calligraphy, cooking class) and shopping help for companions. All approved by your treating physician where relevant.

Our staff

Who will I be working with?

Your dedicated coordinator for the entire journey. Plus an assigned medical interpreter, and access to a 24/7 emergency line for Premium patients. The same people stay with you from arrival to departure.

Are you a hospital or a clinic?

No. We are an independent medical concierge. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and we do not employ doctors. We arrange, translate and accompany — the hospital and its doctors treat you.

What languages do your staff speak?

English (primary), Mandarin, plus a number of other languages. Coordinator assignments are made to match your language needs.

Are your staff employed by you or subcontractors?

Mostly employed by us. Where we use a vetted partner (e.g. for a less common language), we tell you in writing before the engagement starts. We never hand you over to an unnamed subcontractor.

Privacy & safety

Who sees my medical records?

Only the people you have approved in writing: typically our medical coordinator, the assigned interpreter, and the named hospital/department treating you. We do not share records with any third party without your explicit consent.

How is my data stored?

Records are stored on encrypted local storage with access limited to your care team. We retain data only as long as needed for your case and any post-return follow-up — see our Privacy Policy for full details.

Is China safe?

For international patients, major Chinese cities are generally safe and well-policed. We do not advise on political, legal or security matters — that is the role of your own government's travel advisory. We focus on getting you safely to and from the hospital.

What about payment fraud?

All service-fee payments go to our company account (details in the contract). We will never ask you to transfer money to a personal account. Hospital payments are made at the hospital cashier, not to individuals.

Medical risk

Do you guarantee medical outcomes?

No. Nobody honestly can — including us. Treatment decisions and results are between you, your hospital and your doctor. We commit only to the quality of our service.

What happens if something goes wrong medically?

Your treating physician and the hospital are responsible for clinical care. Our role is to escalate quickly, translate the conversation, contact your family abroad (with your consent), and help you make decisions. We do not make medical decisions for you.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes — before you travel, in China, or back home. We can arrange any of these. Many patients use the online consultation specifically to get a second opinion without flying.

What if I need to return home urgently?

If a medical situation requires it, your treating physician will issue the appropriate documentation and we will help you arrange safe medical transport home. This is part of why travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Do you provide telemedicine after I return?

Standard packages include 30 days of email Q&A and one scheduled follow-up call. Premium extends this to 90 days. Telemedicine across borders is, however, subject to the licensing rules of both countries — we facilitate the conversation, but the actual clinical advice comes from your Chinese doctor.

Are there cases you won't take?

Honestly, yes. If a case is beyond what the hospitals we work with can safely treat, or if a patient's expectations are unrealistic (e.g. expecting a guaranteed cure), we will say so during the consultation. We would rather decline than take on a case we cannot serve well.
